PURPOSE:To improve operativity by providing a means which display process information of a document editing means. CONSTITUTION:A display device 30 displays out various pieces of information on the basis of a display control signal 31 from a CPU20. The display image plate of the display device 30 consists of a text display area and a menu display area and the lowermost one line on the display image plane is the menu display area. A RAM50 is stored with character data inputted on a keyboard 10, and an area for storing operation states of respective constituent devices, a text memory area 51 for executing an editing process, a display memory area 52 for storing display data to be displayed on the display device 30, and a menu storage area 62 stored in a ROM60 are provided as menu counters CMT1, MCT2, EXCT, etc., for selecting display menus to be displayed in the menu display area of a display device 90.
