An oxidizing hair dyer based on 4-amino-2-aminomethyl-phenols is disclosed which has the general formula (I), in which R<1> and R<2> represent independently of each other hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, mono- or dialkylaminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonylaminoalkyl, carbamidoalkyl, acyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonyl or carbamoyl, wherein the alkyl residue has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or R<1> and R<2> form a heterocyclic, non aromatic ring with 5 or 6 elements, possibly having an extra oxo-group. These compounds or their salts are used as developing substances. New developing substances are further disclosed which have the general formula (XII), in which R<a> represents hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, mono- or dialkylaminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonylaminoalkyl, carbamoyl, carbamidoalkyl, acyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonyl, the alkyl residues having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R<b> represents aminoalkyl, mono- or dialkylaminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonylaminoalkyl, carbamoyl, carbamidoalkyl, acyl, aryl- or alkylsulfonyl, the alkyl residues having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The developing substances, which have the formula (I), display dyeing properties as good as those of p-Aminophenol, the substance hitherto mostly used to impart a reddish coloration, but have better physiological properties. |
