Coil and magnetostrictive core are placed in the material whose viscosity is to be measured. A current or voltage pulse is applied to the coil as an input signal. The resultant change in magnetic field causes the length of the core to change. This change is damped by the surrounding material. This causes a change in the electrical properties of the sensor which appears on a time-delayed output signal. The output signal characteristic can be correlated empirically with the viscosity of the material. |
