NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (n is 2, 3). EXAMPLE:Cobalt (II) sartoriene of formula II. USE:It is used as an oxygen separator, because it can adsorb and desorb oxygen. PREPARATION:A diamine of formula III and salicyl aldehyde are dissolved in methanol, preferably at 1:2 molar ratio. The resultant solution is usually heated up to 50-100 deg.C to effect dehydration to give a Schiff base of formula IV. The product is dissolved in a solvent and refluxed in the presence of an alkaline solution, then a cobalt (II) salt such as cobalt (II) chloride is added to the solution in a nitrogen atmosphere to give the compound of formula I.
