PURPOSE:To simply prevent scattering of coal dust and hence explosion thereof by adding a binder to coal for feeding into a coke oven to bind fine coal particles to form quasi-particles, and compressing and/or rolling the quasi- particles to increase the strength thereof. CONSTITUTION:A binder (e.g., an aq. soln. of dextrin or an aq. soln. of polyvinyl alcohol) is added to coal to be fed into a coke oven, whereby fine particles contained in coal are bound to form quasi-particles. Subsequently, the quasi- particles are compressed and/or rolled using a pelletizer or a drum mixer to provide an apparent density of 0.9kg/l or more. Thus, the strength of the quasi- particles is improved. The quasi-particles are dried and/or preliminarily heated and then fed into a coke oven, whereby a fear of explosion of coal dust is eliminated and the equipment cost and the coke can be lowered.
