PURPOSE:To impart electrical conductivity of a sealing material of a Si3N4- manufactured apex seal so as to make the sliding surface porous uniformly and finely through the electrolytic discharge processing, by making the Si3N4 dispersely include a small amount of electrically conductive ceramic materials. CONSTITUTION:The top portions of a rotor 3, which is accommodated in the rotor-accommodating chamber of a rotary piston engine E, is provided with an apex seal 4. The apex seal 4 is installed in a seal groove 7 located at a top of the rotor 3 and is elastically pushed in the radial direction by means of a spring 8. Meanwhile, the apex seal 4 is formed with both Si3N4, a kind of ceramic material, and a pred-determined amount of electrically conductive particles made up of TiN, TiB2, etc., which are dispersely included in the said Si3N4. The sliding surface of this apex seal 4 undergoes the electrolytic discharge processing so as to decompose and dissipate the electrically conductive particles, thereby making the surface porous. By this method, the initial breaking-in of the sliding surface of the apex seal 4 can be enhanced.
