The articles are treated in a bath containing inert impingement bodies, by generating a relative motion between articles and impingement bodies or the bath, a promoter and the metal forming the coating being added to the bath and, in order to prevent dissolution of metals and hence evolution of hydrogen, acid being added at the latest before and/or during the addition of the metal forming the coating, using at least one water-soluble organic carboxylic acid or using a combination of at least one water-soluble organic carboxylic acid and/or salts thereof with at least one mineral acid, in such a quantity that the pH of the bath at the start of the application of metal is approximately in the range greater than 2.5-4.5 and, at the end thereof, is approximately in the range from 3 to 7. |
