PURPOSE:To obtain high purity Mo or W which scarcely causes a defect such as a contamination, a crack, etc., at the time of working, by using a high speed and high energy forging method, when forging a high purity molten ingot of an Mo or W powder which has been refined by an ion exchange refining method. CONSTITUTION:A refined Mo powder which has been refined by an ion exchange refining method is formed by a prescribed pressure, and thereafter, this powder formed body is sintered by prescribed temperature and time, and subsequently, an ingot is formed by melting it by an electron beam. When this ingot is worked by a forging method (for instance, a 'Dynapack(R)' method) for deforming it under a high energy and at a high speed, it shows a behavior like a liquid, can be formed in a short time, and can be formed to a plate material, etc. Accordingly, mixing of other element, and contamination of a base material are hardly caused, and also it is scarcely oxidized by the atmosphere, therefore, Mo of high purity is obtained.
