AROMATIC POLYIMIDE HOMOGENOUS POROUS MOLDED BODY AND METHOD FOR CONTINUOUSLY MOLDING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To easily and continuously mold a long aromatic polyimide homogenous porous molded body, by using an aromatic polyimide powder having a specific heating per cent loss in wt. and molding the same under specific pressure according to a ram type extrusion molding process. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic polyimide powder of which the heating per cent loss in wt. at the time of heating at 360 deg.C for 1hr is 2wt% or less and the average particle size is 1-40mum is supplied to a ram type extrusion molding machine to alternately perform the filling of a mold with the aromatic polyimide powder and the extrusion of said powder under pressure of 50-1,000kg/cm<2> by a ram under molding temp. of 280 deg.C or more and a flocculated molded body is extruded. Thus obtained flocculated molded body has voids uniformly distributed in a void ratio [(1-density of molded body/true density)X100] of 5-20%. This aromatic polyimide homogenous porous molded body has heat resistance and heat stability such that heat deformation temp. is extremely high and dimensional stability due to stable coefficient of thermal expansion from ambient temp. to about 300 deg.C is high and further has homogenous porosity.
