PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of a nickel positive electrode plate at the rolling process after filling active materials so as to reduce the generating rate of defects due to cracks and crazings significantly by providing a filling portion of active materials having tapered portion adjacent to the welding part of the lead of a spongy metallic porous body provided on the end of the said spongy metallic porous body. CONSTITUTION:The filling portion 3 of active materials provided adjacent to the lead welding part 2 has the tapered portion 4 provided by the pressure compression so as the taper angle 5 indicated by theta is in the range of 90-10 deg.. Using a metallic nickel porous body as the spongy metallic porous body 1, the nickel positive electrode plate is manufactured by filling active materials in the filling portion 3 of active materials, drying and rolling. The elongation stress 7 induced in the spongy metallic nickel base plate 1 during the rolling process along the direction 6 after filling the active materials in the filling portion 3 of the active materials can be absorbed in the tapered portion 4 gradually so as to reduce the difference of the stress between the filling portion 3 of the active materials of the spongy metallic nickel base plate 1 and the lead welding part 2, thus the cracks and crazings liable to occur in the vicinity of the boundary can be reduced. |
