PURPOSE:To obtain an image high in sensitivity, contrast, and maximum density, and superior in sharpness by using a photosensitive silver halide emulsion composed of flat silver iodobromide grains containing silver iodide, and an internally blurred silver halide emulsion layer composed of silver halide grains and adsorbing a specified compound on the surface of each grain. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive silver halide emulsion contains that flat silver halide grains each having a grain diameter to grain thickness ratio of >=5 and containing silver iodide in an amount of >=3.0mol%, and the internally blurred silver halide emulsion layer is composed of the silver halide grains each which absorb on the surface of each grain at least one of the compounds represented by formulae (I)-(VI) in which X is -O-, -NH-, or -S-; each of R1-R4 is H or a substituent; each of X and X' is an N-containing hetero ring having a mercapto or enolizable thionyl group; and R is a group bonding X and X'.
