PURPOSE:To improve the workability of photographic printing and to reduce the failure of photographic printing by reading out the peripheral information of an original image film such as a bar code formed on the original picture film by original picture film illuminating light. CONSTITUTION:An image forming means 33 forms the image of reflected light from an area in which the peripheral information of the original picture film 11 is written on a photodetecting means 35. At the detection of a start mark 21 and an end mark 23 formed on a bar code 15, the order and positional relation of the detection of these marks 21, 23 are always compared with that obtained when the original picture film 11 is set up on a negative carrier 37 with regular positional relation. Consequently, defective back printing or the inverted printing of the original picture film 11 can be suppressed.
