NEW MATERIAL:A dithiocarbonic acid derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is lower alkyl; R<2> is substituted sulfonyl). EXAMPLE:4-(Ethoxythiocarbonylthio)-1-(p-toluenesulfonyl)indole. USE:Useful as a synthetic intermediate for 4-mercaptoindole based physiologically active substances, e.g. 4-methylthiotryptamine or chuangxinmycin, etc. PREPARATION:A diazonium salt expressed by formula II is reacted with a dithiocarbonate expressed by formula III (M is alkali metal) in a solvent, e.g. acetone, tetrahydrofuran, etc., at -20-+50 deg.C, preferably 0 deg.C- room temperature to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The compound expressed by formula II can be readily synthesized from 4-aminoindole and the compound expressed by formula III can be readily synthesized by combination of an alcohol or substituted amine with carbon disulfide and alkali.
