PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorescent material resistant to deterioration of fluorescence caused by baking, by coating the surface of a specific fluorescent matrix emitting blue or green light with colloidal aluminum hydroxide and heating the product. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a matrix of a blue light-emitting fluorescent material doped with Eu<++> [e.g. the compound of formula I or II (X is F, Cl or Br)] or a green light-emitting fluorescent material doped with Tb<+++> (e.g. a compound of formula III-V) is coated with colloidal aluminum hydroxide and heated to obtain the objective fluorescent material coated with aluminum oxide fine powder. EFFECT:The fluorescent material gives a fluorescent lamp having high initial luminance and stable luminance throughout the life.
