PURPOSE:To produce a sliding member having excellent wear resistance and high compressive strength by covering a mixture composed of copper alloy powder and lubricative powder of Mo and graphite with a gas vent sheet and sintering the mixture after pressurizing the same, then welding the sintered body to a base material. CONSTITUTION:Raw material powder consisting of Cu alloy powder contg. Ni, Sn and P and lubricative powder of Mo powder and artificial graphite powder and synthetic resin binder are thrown into a kneader 4, by which the mixture M is obtd. After the mixture M is heated and dried on a heater 5, the mixture is passed through a rolling mill 6 to obtain a raw material sheet S. The raw material sheet S is heated by the heater 5 and is then stuck onto a base material 2 such as steel sheet. The top surface thereof is coated with the sheet 6 for gas venting and further a pressurizing body 7 is imposed thereon. Such laminate is installed in a vacuum sintering furnace 8 where the thermal decomposition of the binder, etc., the sintering of the raw material powder and the welding of the sintered copper alloy to the base material 2 are executed.
