PURPOSE:To obtain an Al alloy having superior machinability to a mirror finished surface by adding specified amounts of Mg, Cu and Be to Al or further adding a specified amount of Zn and restricting the Fe and Si contents. CONSTITUTION:This Al alloy has a composition obtd. by adding, by weight, 2.0-5.0% Mg, 0.05-2.0% Cu and 0.0005-0.01% Be to Al or further adding 0.05-3.0% Zn and restricting the amounts of Fe and Si as impurities to <0.05% each. One ore more among <0.15% Cr, <0.4% Mn and <0.05% Ti may be added as required. The alloy can easily be machined to a mirror finished surface with a diamond tool without scratching.
