The process comprises hydrolysis reaction of 9-fluoro-3-methyl- 10-(4-methyl- 1-piperazinyl) -7-oxo -2,3-dihydro-7H -pyrido(1,2,3-de)-1,4 benzoxazine-6-carbonitrile. The reaction, in aqueous medium or in a mixt. of water and a lower alcohol, is catalysed by an acid or a base, and produces the corresponding carboxylic acid. The reaction temperature is 70-105 degrees C.
