1,091,030. Grinding. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 18, 1966 [Nov. 30, 1965], No. 46594/66. Heading B3D. A machine for machining the internal surface of a tube 4 comprises a motor member 5 which has a shaft 6 for a tool 7 and is mounted on a transverse pivot 8 supported by a sleeve 9 adapted to be mounted coaxial in the tube and rotatable in a support 15 fixable in the tube by a locking device. The sleeve 9 is rotatable in bearings 16, 17 in the support 15 which can be locked in position in the tube by inflating one or more envelopes 18. A spring 10 acts to urge the tool, such as a grinding-wheel 7, against the tube to grind a circular groove or chamfer 2, the reaction of the wheel causing the sleeve to rotate in the support 15; a counterweight 11 acts against the spring. The motor 5 may be pneumatic or electrical and its supply is connected to a member 12 located within a fork 13 mounted by a ball joint 14 on the support 15. A deformable envelope 12 can be inflated to pivot the motor against the spring and disengage the grinding-wheel from the tube. In other embodiments, the spring is replaced by a resilient band or pneumatic cushion and a television camera may be used to monitor the action of the tool. The tube to be ground may be rectilinear or curved. |
