PURPOSE:To reduce a device in cost and size by inspecting the entire surface of a disk by one inspection processing means. CONSTITUTION:The inspecting device is provided with one inspection processing means which includes a mean value generating circuit 9, registers 10 and 11, a selection gate 12, and an inspecting circuit 13. Amplifiers 6 and 7 amplify a signal generated by a signal generator to supply it to heads 2 and 3 and also amplify and output readout signals from the heads 2 and 3 to a channel switching circuit 8. The circuit 8 switches either of them selectively and its output signal to the circuit 9 and circuit 13. The circuit 9 generates the mean value of the voltage level of the supplied signal and outputs the mean value. The output signal of the circuit 9 is supplied to a gate 12 through registers 10 and 11 and either one is selected 12 and outputted to the circuit 13. The circuit 13 multiplies the supplied signal by a specific numeral to generate an output range based upon the signal as 100%, and inspects a signal level from the circuit 8 successively after the signal is written on the disk 5, thereby outputting a signal indicating the inspection result.
