PURPOSE:To remarkably simplify the treatment of one end of an optical fiber by applying a photoresist to the end of the fiber, exposing the part of the photoresist corresponding to the core of the fiber, removing the remaining unexposed part and etching the end to form a projection. CONSTITUTION:A photoresist 8 is applied to one end 6 of an optical fiber 1 having a core 2 and a light source 9 is placed at the outside of the other end 7. Light from the light source 9 is converged with a condenser 10, enters the core 2 and reaches the part of the photoresist 8 corresponding to the core 2 through the core 2, forming an exposed part 11. At this time, an unexposed part 12 remains in the photoresist 8. After the unexposed part 12 is removed, the end 6 of the fiber 1 is etched to form a projection.
