PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a hearth which can produce Zr having high purity with good efficiency by subjecting the surface in the groove part of the hearth body to coating by plasma spraying with high melting ceramic powder which is a nonoxide and has no reactivity with Zr. CONSTITUTION:The hearth body having the groove part 2 to be packed with molten Zr is molded by using at least one kind of the oxide or metal having good moldability as the base material 1 for the hearth. The high melting ceramic powder which is a nonoxide and has no reactivity with Zr is coated by plasma spraying at least on the surface of the above-mentioned groove part 2 to form a high melting and electrically conductive ceramic layer 4. At least one kind among SiC, MoSi2; carbides of Ti, Zr and Hf and borides of Ti, Zr, and Hf are adequately used for the above-mentioned high melting ceramic powder.
