PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a document generating and editing operation by providing a transformation area movement control means for making a transformation area follow the up-and-down movement of a cursor for indicating a character input position. CONSTITUTION:A cursor movement control part A brings a cursor to a movement control in the line direction or the row direction on a CRT display device C in accordance with a cursor movement instruction, and when a line direction movement instruction in the cursor movement instruction has been received, a transformation area control means B brings a transformation area on the CRT display device C to a movement control in accordance with said instruction. As a result, on the device C, the transformation area moves by following a movement in the line direction of the cursor. In this way, the cursor and the transformation area can be brought close to each other, and both can be viewed even if a line of sight is not moved so much, therefore, the operability is improved.
