There is a requirement on the part of helmsmen to be able sometimes to release and lock the rudder without the boat deviating from its course. The present lock arrangement is intended for boats with a tiller 4 and the locking of the tiller is obtained by means of the tiller 4 being pivoted vertically in a direction B. The tiller 4 is then released by being pivoted in the other direction C. The lock arrangement comprises a locking member 7 which is placed on the tiller 4 and through which a rope 8 runs. Depending on the tautness of the rope 8, the locking member 7 locks the rope 8 or lets it run through freely. Each end of the rope 8 is secured to respective fixed points 9, 12 on the boat 1.
