PRODUCTION OF MESO-CARBON MICROBEAD FROM BULK MESOPHASE

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain meso-carbon microbead having uniform particle size, easily and economically on an industrial scale, by finely dispersing a bulk mesophase in a silicone oil bath and cooling the dispersion to effect the solidification of the mesophase. CONSTITUTION:A bulk mesophase formed by the growth and integration of optical anisotropic small particles formed in pitch by heat-treatment of pitch is finely dispersed in a silicone oil bath heated at a temperature higher than the temperature giving bulk mesophase viscosity of 200 poise by 60-160 deg.C. The finely dispersed mesophase is solidified by cooling to obtain the objective meso-carbon microbead.
