PURPOSE:To simplify a floating test by loading an AE sensor together with a magnetic head and discriminating that the AE output comes to be the prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:When the frequency of rotation of a magnetic disk 211 due to a disk driving means is gradually increased, a slider head gradually floats from the surface of the magnetic disk 211 due to the function of a slider 215, by the contact with the fine projection of the magnetic disk 211, the mechanical vibration is generated, the vibration is transferred through a gimbal 217 to an AE sensor 221 and an AE output signal 223 of the AE sensor 221 is changed. However, when the frequency of the rotation of a disk is increased, the floating quantity of the slider head comes to be larger, the mechanical vibration transferred through the gimbal 217 comes to be smaller and the distortion of the AE sensor 221 comes to be a small constant quantity. When, an AE output processing part 225 to receive an AE output signal 223 discriminates that an AE output comes to be a small constant value, and detects that a magnetic head 213 completely floats from the magnetic head 213.
