PURPOSE:To control valve timing so as to obtain the proper characteristics of valve action by providing two intake/exhaust valve acting cams for one valve whereby keeping one of them open for a longer period of time for controlling the connection between said cam and a cam shaft. CONSTITUTION:The opening/closing motion of an intake/exhaust valve 1 is actuated by both No.1 cam 7 fixed onto a cam shaft 5 and a cam 7 which is detachably connected with the cam shaft 5 via a tappet 11. The profile of No.2 cam is formed in such a way that the valve open timing is earlier than and the valve close timing is later than those of No.1 cam 6 respectively. And a plunger 18 which can be projected from the cam (5) side, is provided in an inner chamber 7a of No.2 cam 7 for feeding oil in a tank 31 into a hydraulic chamber 22 of the cam 5 from a pipe 3 so as to push the plunger 18 wherein the cam shaft 5 is connected with the cam 7 by the plunger 18 when a solenoid valve 26 is opened by the control output of a control device 30. In this case, the valve 1 is opened and/or closed by the cam 7 which makes the valve open in a wide range. |
