PURPOSE:To obtain a large thrust force by passing a magnetic flux through a secondary side traveling path along the longitudinal direction of a tooth, and sufficiently deepening the groove of a tooth to reduce a leakage magnetic flux. CONSTITUTION:Four magnetic field legs P1-P4 are arranged longitudinally of a tooth of a secondary traveling path 3 on a movable unit 1. Two teeth are formed on each field leg, and the teeth are displaced in phase by 1/4 pitch. Permanent magnets PM1, PM2 are formed on the backs of the legs P1-P4, and both are coupled by a yoke 5. Exciting windings C1-C4 are provided at the respective legs. With this construction, since the magnetic flux in the path 3 flows longitudinally of the teeth, a leakage magnetic flux can be reduced by deepening the grooves of the teeth, thereby obtaining a large thrust force.
