The gate for people blocks a passage (3) between opposite walls (1, 2). On a vertical pivot shaft (4) arranged in front of one wall (1), two door leaves (5, 6) are fastened at an angle to one another and interconnected by an inner wall (7) so that this inner wall (7) and the door leaves (5, 6) delimit a space offering room for only one person. This space is delimited on the side opposite the pivot shaft (4) by closure elements (8, 9) which stand at an angle to the wall (2) lying behind. The gate compartment consisting of the door leaves (5, 6) is pivoted by the driven pivot shaft (4) in opposite directions into an open position for entry to and respectively exit from the gate compartment. From the locked central position, this can be carried out only by a person authorised for access by actuating a release device (11) arranged on the wall (2) between the closure elements (8, 9), which device can be designed as a reading device for a code or an identification card. <IMAGE>
