PURPOSE:To correctly and speedily calculate a various sorts of coefficients and numerical values which represent the performance of a hull by utilizing computers by dividing the shape of water plane of the ship in parallel and nonparallel parts and representing the shape of the water plane in the nonparallel part in an equation, thus correctly representing the shape of the hull. CONSTITUTION:The shape of the water plane of a ship is represented by the following equation for the front and rear parts. Y=Y1(X)+Y2(XS). In the above, Y: half width, X: coordinate in the direction of bow and stern, Y1: function (X), Y2(XS): correction function for stern frame, bow valve, etc. By utilizing the equation, the shape of a hull can be correctly represented without necessitating diagrams. When the half width calculated according to the equation and the actual half width of the frame offset of a cargo ship are compared, the result obtained in the form of the standard deviation for the difference between each frame half width of each water plane and the calculated value becomes less than one thousandth of the half width of the ship. A various sorts of coefficients and numerical values which represent the performance of the hull can be calculated speedily and correctly by utilizing computers.
