PURPOSE:To enable an image of high-quality to be transferred without being affected by a surface of a transferred paper, by a method wherein; in a thermal transfer medium consisting of an overcoat layer, an ink layer, a release layer, and a base layer to be applied with a printing energy, the affinity between the overcoat layer and the ink layer is set larger than the cohesion of the release layer when melting. CONSTITUTION:When a thermal head is heated to approximately 140 deg.C by the application of a printing energy, an overcoat layer 1 corresponding to the portion applied with the energy is melted to have a tackiness, thus adhering to a transferred paper. When the thermal head is cooled to, for example, about 68 deg.C due to a decreased printing energy, the overcoat layer 1 and an ink layer 2 are cooled and set. In this condition, stripping of a thermal transfer medium from the transferred paper induces a cohesive fracture of a release layer 3, thus resulting in that a character containing the overcoat layer 1, the ink layer 2, and the cohesive fractured release layer 3 is transferred on the transferred paper. Therefore, all the ink layer corresponding to the heated portion is transferred even on an irregular surface of the transferred paper, which enables a good image without irregularities to be obtained. |
