1,248,332. Ion sources. BOHLER & CO. A.G. GEB. 22 Aug., 1969 [22 Aug., 1968], No. 41922/69. Heading H1D. The ion source described in Specification 1,176,257 in which a conical or disc-shaped gas discharge is set up between a rod-shaped electrode and a tubular electrode into which the rod-shaped electrode extends, the gas to be ionized being supplied through a conduit into the tubular electrode and the two electrodes being constantly or intermittently supplied with opposite potentials, is provided with counter-electrode of polarity such that ions of opposite charge with respect to the counterelectrode are extracted from the tubular electrode. The counter electrode may, if appropriate, be electrically connected to the tubular electrode. |
