A steel which is age hardenable in the martensitic state comprises:- the balance, apart from impurity amounts of S, P, H, O and N, and small amounts of Cu and Co, being iron. The steel may be soaked at 1150‹ - 1260‹ C, hot worked at 980‹-1095‹ C with a finishing temperature of 815‹ -925‹ C, optionally cold worked, solution treated at 760‹ -925‹ C cooled to form martensite and then aged at 425‹ - 540‹ C. |
