PURPOSE:To reduce the number of memories, and to perform the transfer of a bit of information effectively by storing a bit of record information at a buffer memory in the inversion time of the reciprocating movement of a recording medium in a device which stores the bit of information reciprocating the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:First of all, a data is stored at a buffer memory 111 from a host side. And when an optical head arrives at a recording area on an optical card, data is read out from the buffer memory 111, and is recorded at the optical card. When write is completed, the inversion of the reciprocating movement is performed, however, at such a time, the same data as the one just recorded is transferred again to the buffer memory 111 from the host side. In a backward movement time, the data just recorded is read out, and the contents of both data are compared, and when they are coincided, a transfer request signal is outputted, and the transfer of the data to be written at the next track is received from the host side in the inversion time of the reciprocating movement.
