PURPOSE:To make the fixation of a heat retention film firm, by winding heat- resistant light-permeable fibers on at least part of the outside surface of a light emission tube, applying a solution of a metal alkoxide to the fibers and the part, spontaneously drying the solution, and baking it to make the heat retention film. CONSTITUTION:Heat-resistant light-permeable fibers such as quartz wool are wound on both the end portions of a light emission tube 6 for a metal halide lamp or the like. The end portions of the tube 6 are thereafter dipped in a solution of a metal alkoxide and then spontaneously dried. After that, the end portions of the tube 6 are baked at a temperature of about 600 deg.C for about 3min so that a heat retention film 5 for heightening the vapor pressure of a metal iodide put in the tube 6 is made of a heat-resistant metal oxide such as TiO2 and SiO2 on the contact portions of the fibers and the outside surface of the tube. The tightness of the contact of the heat retention film 5 is high. The film 5 is not made fluffy because of contact or the like during the production of the lamp or the like. The strength of the film 5 is very high.
