PURPOSE:To obtain a coating film having superior adhesion by forming a boron compound film on a base material to be coated with a boron bonding layer in-between. CONSTITUTION:A base material 1 to be coated such as tool steel is coated with a metallic boron layer 2 by a vacuum deposition method such as ion plating. Gaseous N2 as a reactive gas is then fed to form a BN film 3. Thus, a BN coating film having superior adhesion is obtd. and the durability of the base material is improved.
