The collecting tipper (skip) according to the invention comprises a hopper 1 comprising an entry 2 provided at its upper part for receiving the refuse, an exit 3 located in its lower part and communicating with the inside of the tipper (skip), a front transverse wall 4, a rear transverse wall 5, two lateral walls 6, a compacting device 7 mounted pivotably about a transverse axis and capable of interacting with the rear transverse wall 5 in order to transfer the refuse towards the exit 3 and compact it in the tipper (skip), this compacting device being movable between an inactive position in which it is distant from the exit of the hopper and an active position in which it is located at the level of the said exit, and sealing means 8 for preventing the refuse contained in the hopper from coming into the space 9 located above and/or to the rear of the compacting device 7 while the latter is moving between its active and inactive positions. This tipper (skip) may be used for discharging refuse collected in refuse containers of approximately 5 m<3>. <IMAGE>
