The machine shreds sheet-metal and similar material, having a rotor with arms and hammers on spindles on the arm ends. Pairs of rotor arms are offset, forming a cruciform rotor and having recesses (7) allowing the hammers to turn. Protective caps on the rotor between the hammers are set back from the arm ends. They can be secured by spindles passing through them, and there can be a cap at each arm end.
