PURPOSE:To improve electrical insulation and attaching accuracy as high as possible by providing an insulating means for insulating a solid-state image pickup element attaching an optical glass accommodated in a package from a metal cover. CONSTITUTION:On the photoelectric converting surface of the bonding pat part 10a of a package 10, the optical glass 13 is attached by using an optical bonding agent and the glass 13 has a long side longer than the short side of the package 10. Under the attached state, the glass is protruded from both the end parts of the long side of the solid-state image pickup element 12 and the short side of the package 10 and on the glass 13, the metal cover 14 provided with a through hole 14a is attached. In this manner, the glass 13 is protruded from the package 10 and directly abuts against the cover 14,thereby, only by assembling successively the element 12, the glass 13 and the cover 14 with respect to the package 10, the highly accurate attachment can be performed as highly as possible. Since the electrical insulation of the element 12 and the cover 14 can be maintained effectively, the reliability of the product can be improved.
