PURPOSE:To obtain the titled medium having excellent electromagnetic characteristics and wear resistance by incorporating a polymer obtd. by bringing a prepolymer having a hydroxyl group and isocyanate ethyl methacrylate into the titled binder. CONSTITUTION:This binder curable by radiation for the magnetic recording medium contains the polymer obtd. by bringing the prepolymer having the hydroxyl group and the isocyanate ethyl methacrylate. This binder is adequately used for the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium contg. the binder and magnetic powder, for example, magnetic tape and magnetic disk. Any prepolymer having the hydroxyl group is usable and a copolymer contg. a vinyl chloride or vinyl alcohol as a constituting unit is more preferable. for example, a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/vinyl alcohol copolymer and vinyl chloride/vinyl alcohol copolymer are used as such prepolymer.
