<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to clean an active substrate by evacuating the space between the active substrate and a liquid crystal cell and bringing them into contact with each other, applying a voltage between the active substrate and a passive substrate, and inspecting a defect of the active substrate. CONSTITUTION:A rubber ring 14 is mounted on the passive substrate 8 and the active substrate 7 is placed thereupon; and vacuum evacuation 23 is carried out to bring the substrates 7 and 8 into contact with each other and become vacuum in the space between the substrate 7 and a transparent dielectric thin plate 9, so that an active-side transparent electrode 15 contacts the thin plate 9. Liquid crystals 11 are charged in the liquid crystal container formed of the substrate 8, thin plate 9, and a spacer 10 and a voltage is applied between the electrode 15 facing the thin plate 9 across the liquid crystals 11 and a passive electrode 16, so that electric charges having the opposite polarity from the electrode 15 gather at the side of the electrode 15 of the thin plate 9 and electric charges having the same polarity with the electrode 15 gather on the surface on the side of the liquid crystals 11. In this case, the voltage applied between the electrodes 15 and 16 is selected to drive the liquid crystals 11 by the electrode 16 and thin plate 9 and transmitted light is observed through a polarizing plate 17 to find defective picture elements of a switching element.</p> |
