PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of a side stroke due to a groove which forms a magnetic gap by forming the length part from the flank of a magnetic core facing a recording medium to one end of a maximum magnetic gap lower than any other part. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic cores 1 and 1' for recording and reproduction and cores 2 and 2' for erasure are provided with a recessed part 8 which reduces the side stroke and the surface facing a recording medium is formed lower by a quantity corresponding to the depth of a maximum groove 3. A magnetic flux head outputs variation of magnetic flux with time as a voltage, but the output decreases by 55d/lambda if there is a gap (d) between the head and recording medium. When magnetic cores 1 and 1' are off tracks, the groove 3 forming the gap 6 is positioned on an adjacent track and the playback output decreases by 55d/lambda. Consequently, the generation of a side stroke due to the groove 3 is reduced.
