An instrument panel for passenger motor cars comprises a unit part and an upper and a lower deformation part. The unit part serves to accommodate display instruments, operating control elements etc. The deformation parts are constructed from energy-absorbing materials and serve to absorb impacts. The unit part is held by means of a vehicle body crossmember. To compensate for tolerances of the individual components of the instrument panel, at least the upper deformation part is provided with a convexly curved overlap.
