Separating means for separating the workpiece from the work holder and the plunger of a diffusion welding unit

In diffusion welding, separating means are used in order to avoid adhesion of the workpiece surfaces to the work rest and the plunger, which tend to weld on account of the high surface quality required due to the process, as a result of which the surface of the welded workpieces can be impaired. Plates of glass-like carbon are chosen as the separating means. On account of the high compressive strength and dimensional stability of the glass-like carbon, in particular in the case of workpieces with unstable individual parts at the margin, the plates ensure a high surface quality without rework of the workpieces, permit the clamping of several workpieces in a stack for simultaneous diffusion welding, are subject to low wear and can be made reusable by repolishing.
