1,190,676. Photo-conductive composition. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 16 April, 1968 [13 April, 1967], No. 17845/68. Heading H1K. A photo-conductive composition for use in electrophotography, photo-cells, photo-amplifiers and X-ray/visible photo-image converters, comprises CdS.nCdCO 3 , where 0<n#4, and a sensitising dyestuff. Part of the sulphide may be replaced by selenide. The dyestuffs may be eosine, rose bengal, fluoresceine, froxine, ethyl eosine, malachite green, crystal violet, brilliant green, dicyanine, kryptocyanine, pinnacyanol, neocyanine, melocyanine, rhodamine B, methylene blue or mixtures thereof. The iodides of Li, Mg, Be, Bi, W, Cs, Sr, Sn, K, Cd, Sb, Al or Zn may be added. The composition may be mixed with an acrylic resin and coated on an aluminium sheet. The composition may be made by suspending SiO 2 , bentonite, diatomaceous earth, ZnO, ZnS, TaO 2 , Al 2 O 3 or MgO in an aqueous carbonate solution, adding an aqueous cadmium solution thereto and then an aqueous sulphide solution. The precipitate is washed, dried and heated to 200‹ C. Alternatively a mixture of CdCO 3 and S or S + Se, is heated to 450‹ C. thereby giving a mixed salt. The iodide may be added as an aqueous solution during manufacture or by exposing the composition to the vapour of the iodide. |
