A method and a device for optically testing the dimensional stability of parts or workpieces is proposed, in which the parts or workpieces to be measured are guided through the parallel radiation of two photoelectric transmitters which is detected by two photoelectric receivers. The spacing of the transmitters or receivers corresponds at most to the external dimensions of the parts or workpieces. Given a set coverage by the part or workpiece of the total radiation cross-section evaluated by the first receiver, the coverage by the part or workpiece of the total radiation cross-section evaluated by the second receiver is measured and compared with a reference value. This reference value is measured before a measurement series by means of a reference part or reference workpiece giving the said coverage, and stored. <IMAGE>
