The present invention relates to a flexible production system for the production of different workpieces on a single production system by means of a plurality of different machine tools (4). For this purpose, the production system consists of at least one transport system (1), by means of which the various workpieces are supplied to the different machine tools (4), and the machine tools (4) are provided with feed units (5). The feed units (5) have devices (6) for recognizing the type of the various workpieces, which, according to the type of workpiece, cause the workpieces to be supplied from the transport system (1) to the machine tool (4). The feed units (5) are designed especially as industrial robots of high mobility. The production system according to the invention is capable of producing different workpieces completely automatically in a well differentiated manner and without manual actions.
