<p>A hot junction 8 is formed at any position intermediate of the ends of a mineral insulated thermocouple cable by locally removing the sheath 4 and mineral insulation at a position intermediate of the ends of the cable to expose a limited length of each conductor 2, 3 and by brazing or welding the positive conductor to the negative conductor to form a hot junction. The hot junction 8 and the exposed limited lengths of conductors 2, 3 are embedded in a refractory cement 9 which is cured by the application of heat, and a metal sleeve 10 is applied over the insulated hot junction so that the sleeve overlaps the neighbouring parts of the cable sheath 4. The sleeve 10 is then brazed or otherwise permanently electrically connected to the neighbouring parts of the sheath 4. The method enables the hot junction to be accurately positioned. <IMAGE></p> |
