A method and an apparatus for obtaining an electrical representation of an image wherein each line of said image is repeatedly scanned with distinct irradiation amounts and wherein for each pixel an electrical representation is generated by adjusting the most accurate output value, which value corresponds with the image-wise modulated light obtained in a measurement cycle that provides optimal density resolution, by taking into account the irradiation amount during said measurement cycle. By means of the method and apparatus of the present invention the density resolving power of a given anti-blooming image sensor is improved and the light intensity detection range is extended.
