PURPOSE:To separate three chrominance signals and to obtain a circuit constitution suitable for an IC small in a circuit scale by arithmetically operating the first and the second sampled multiplex signals sampled by a switch performing an on and off operation in the same frequency as a specific frequency and the first and the second multiplex signals. CONSTITUTION:At the time of scanning the nth scanning line, the output of an addition circuit 15 is 0.5(R+B)+0.5(R-B)=R and a red signal is obtained. When a switch circuit conducts a terminal 24a and a terminal 24c, the output is 0.5(R+B)-0.5(R-B)=B according to a subtraction circuit 16 and a blue signal is obtained. At the time of scanning the (n+1)th scanning line, the switch circuit conducts the terminal 24c and a terminal 24b, and the output is -{0.5(R-B)-0.5(R+B)}=B and the blue signal is obtained. The switch circuit 24 synchronizes with the pulse in which a control pulse inputted to a switch circuit control terminal 24a reads the signal of an image pickup element 1 outputted from a pulse generating circuit 21.
