PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate resin having both heat and water resistances during molding, by reacting a durene skeleton-containing biphenol and bisphenol A with phosgene in the presence of a basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate resin of the formula is obtained by reacting a durence skeleton-containing biphenol such as 1,2,4,5-tetramethyl-3,6-di(3,5- dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-be-nzene, 1,2,4,5-tetramethyl-3,6-di(4-hydroxybenzyl) benzene, 1,2,4,5,-tetramethyl-3-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-6-(4--hydroxyben zyl) benzene or 1,2,4,5-tetramethyl-3,6-di(3-methyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)benzene or both of this biphenol and bisphenol A with phosgene in the presence of a basic catalyst.
